Southern Bank Mourns Passing of Former Board Member Sam Smith
(November 17, 2016 – Poplar Bluff, MO) Southern Bank is saddened by the recent news of Sam Smith’s passing, who was a great friend, former long-time board member, mentor and supporter of Southern Bank. Mr. Smith was a former member of the Southern Bank Board of Directors, along with the Board of Directors for the bank’s holding company, Southern Missouri Bancorp, Inc.
Mr. Smith, founder of Smith & Company Engineers in Poplar Bluff, joined the Board of Directors in 1988 and served for 26 years before retiring in 2014. He also served as Chairman of the Southern Missouri Bancorp Board of Directors from October 2008 to October 2014. He played an invaluable part in guiding the Company throughout his tenure on the Board.
“Sam was a wonderful man who generously served his family, his company and his community with all he had. Our hearts go out to Sam’s family during this time of sadness, but have no doubt they are able to rejoice in his many personal and professional accomplishments throughout his life,” said Greg Steffens, President and CEO of Southern Bank. “All of us at Southern Bank will miss him and feel truly honored that he was part of our team.”
